TOP TEN

     The good news about list’s, is that God has given us His list.  He gave us His top ten list that has His counsel, wisdom and guidance.  It is kind of a cliff notes for the things that are most important to Him.  It is called the Ten Commandments.  In fact, just last Sunday I started a sermon series on the subject.  As I am preparing for this series, I wonder what comes to your mind when you hear we are going to talk about the Ten Commandments.  Some might think of the old movie with Charlton Heston or the legal fights about whether they should be posted in schools or government buildings.  Or maybe what comes to your mind is a legalistic, binding, outdated, set of do’s and don’ts.
     Over the next few weeks, I encourage you to try and suspend all of the outdated, negative images and ideas you have about the Ten Commandments and let yourself be challenges each week, by each one of them.  I want to encourage you to take a fresh look at each one of them.  Try to look at each commandment in the way that God had in mind. 
     Let me know what comes to your mind, when you think about the Ten Commandments and what God is teaching you.  Last week we learned that the first thing God wants us to do is “Put Him First.”  How is that going?
     This next Sunday, I want you to think about how you view God.  How would you describe God?  It is important to compare what we have been taught about God and what we think about Him with the truth of Scripture.  God says your image of Him is essential to authentic worship.  So, what comes to your mind when you think of God?  When it comes to real worship, God says Image is everything (Ex. 20: 4-5)  Don’t miss this week because we will learn the TRUE IMAGE OF GOD.
